About CLAREP

The Centre for Language Research and English Proficiency [CLAREP] is an educational non-governmental, non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing language research in Africa and promoting the proficient use of language in all its spheres. Its mission is to foster excellence in language studies and research, benefitting scholars, educators, and language enthusiasts. It provides a platform for collaborative research and the mentoring of young academics.

Welcome to Clarep, the centre for language research and English proficiency, where we’re driven by a shared passion for understanding the complexities of language and its profound impact on individuals and societies. Our team of researchers and experts are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of language study, exploring new frontiers in linguistic theory, language acquisition, and communication. We’re committed to harnessing the power of language to promote cultural exchange, social cohesion, and economic development.

As Director, I’m proud to lead a team that’s not only advancing knowledge in the field but also translating research into practical applications that benefit communities worldwide. Our centre is a hub for innovative thinking, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing, where researchers, policymakers, and industry partners come together to tackle pressing language-related challenges. Through our work, we aim to foster a deeper appreciation of language diversity, drive evidence-based policy and practice, and contribute to creating a more inclusive and interconnected world.

Language Experts Driving Revitalization & Academic Excellence

Revitalisation

To achieve the goal of revitalization, we conduct research in key areas, including language preservation and documentation, the development of language databases and corpora, and the definition of language for specific purposes.

Expansion of Language Function

To achieve the expansion of language function, the center addresses the country’s complex multilingual situation by conducting specialized training on managing language conflicts, enhancing the role of language in socio-economic and political contexts, and ensuring its effective use in professional, academic, and administrative settings.

Enhancement of Language Skills and Proficiency

To achieve skills development and language proficiency, we run various programs targeting specific language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We organize workshops and summer schools focused on academic writing and research skills, while also offering training and conducting language proficiency tests to ensure comprehensive language development.
